Question 511 · Car theory test
What is a possible effect of overfilling the engine with oil?
Pick an answer to test yourself.
Correct answer
It could damage the catalytic converter.
Official explanation
It is essential that the vehicle's engine is not overfilled with oil, as this can permanently damage the catalytic converter, which is part of most vehicles' exhaust systems and removes up to 75% of the carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, and hydrocarbons from the vehicle's exhaust. Damaging this increases exhaust emissions.
