Official explanation
The minimum tyre tread depth for motorcycles is 1 mm. However, it is advisable to replace the tyre before it wears that low to improve road holding, especially in wet weather. Some tyres have a wear indicator in the groove to show that the tyre is getting near to the minimum legal requirement.
