When driving on a motorway, what should a driver do if they miss their exit?

Leave the motorway at the next exit and cross to the other side using the fly-over (or underpass).
Official explanation
If a driver misses their intended exit when driving on a motorway, they should proceed to the next junction exit where they can leave the motorway and then rejoin it on the opposite side of the motorway.
