What should a driver do if there is a fire inside the engine compartment?

Stop safely and as soon as possible.
Official explanation
If your vehicle catches fire whilst driving, stop as soon as it is safe to do so. Evacuate the vehicle with care for the occupants safety. Call emergency services. Do not open the engine compartment as the rush of air could fan the flames.
