Mock theory test Ireland
The Irish driver theory test is 40 questions in 45 minutes with a pass mark of 35 for car and motorcycle, and 100 questions in 120 minutes with a pass mark of 74 for truck and bus. These simulators use exactly that format, with questions drawn from the official RSA bank, the original images and the official explanations. Pick your category and start; the result appears the moment you finish.

How to use a mock test properly
- Sit the first one cold, before studying. It shows which topics you actually know. Most people score 25 to 30 on the first go and pass comfortably a week later.
- Fix the weak topics in topic practice, then sit another timed mock. Do not re-read the whole Rules of the Road between attempts.
- Answer every question. There is no negative marking. Flag doubts and revisit them in the review pass.
- Stop when you pass three in a row with 38+ (or 90+ for truck and bus). Then book on theorytest.ie and read what test day looks like.
Frequently asked questions
+What is the format of the Irish theory test?
Car (B) and motorcycle (A): 40 multiple-choice questions in 45 minutes, pass mark 35. Truck (C) and bus (D): 100 questions in 120 minutes, pass mark 74. Every question has one correct answer and there is no negative marking. You sit it on a computer at a Prometric test centre.
+Is this mock theory test the same as the real one?
Same question count, same clock, same pass mark and questions drawn from the official Irish bank with the original images and explanations. The one thing nobody can copy is the exact set you will be shown on the day, because each sitting is a different random draw.
+Is the mock theory test free?
Yes. Each simulator is free with no signup and no card. The free version draws from the demo pool of every topic; full access to the whole bank and unlimited mocks is a paid upgrade.
+How many mock tests should I do before the real theory test?
Until you pass three in a row with 38 or more out of 40 (or 90 or more out of 100 for truck and bus). Scores of 34 to 36 mean one unlucky draw can fail you. Most learners get there in five to ten timed mocks spread over a week or two.
+How much does the theory test cost in Ireland?
€45 for car and motorcycle, €72 for truck or bus, €84 for the combined truck-and-bus test. A fail means paying the full fee again, which is why a few free mocks first are worth it.
+Can I do the mock exam on my phone?
Yes. The simulator runs in the browser on any phone, tablet or laptop, and can be installed as an app. Progress is saved if you leave, but the clock keeps running, like the real test.
