Question 1187 · Truck theory test
What should a driver do when overtaking a large vehicle that is throwing up spray?
Pick an answer to test yourself.
Correct answer
Move out earlier than normal and give extra clearance.
Official explanation
In wet weather, vehicles tend to throw up spray and mud, and this can affect visibility for other road users. To minimize this danger, read the road ahead, and when overtaking move out earlier than usual, giving the vehicle you are overtaking extra clearance. This will reduce the amount of spray being deposited on your windscreen.
