Question 751 · Car theory test
What is the purpose of rumble strips on the sides of a carriageway?
Pick an answer to test yourself.
Correct answer
To alert drivers that their vehicle is veering out of their lane.
Official explanation
Rumble strips are raised or grooved patterns on the roadway shoulder that provide both an audible warning, rumbling sounds, and a physical vibration to alert drivers that they are leaving the driving lane. In addition to warning inattentive drivers, rumble strips help drivers on the road during inclement weather when visibility is poor.
