Question 3129 · Motorcycle theory test
What is the main advantage of riding in the central position, midway between the nearside edge and the centre line of the road?
Pick an answer to test yourself.
Correct answer
It gives the rider a good margin of safety on each side.
Official explanation
The normal position when riding on a single carriageway road with two-way traffic is halfway between the centre of the road and the left-hand side. The advantage of riding in this position is that you are more visible to other traffic, and you are in a better position to avoid potholes and road debris. It also reduces the potential for conflict with oncoming traffic.
