Question 1806 · Truck theory test
Why should the fifth wheel drawing plate on an articulated truck be sufficiently greased?

Pick an answer to test yourself.
Correct answer
To reduce wear.
Official explanation
In order to prevent premature wear on the drawing plate and latching mechanism, the fifth wheel should be cleaned, inspected for damage and re-greased regularly. Keeping the fifth wheel well greased makes it easier to couple and uncouple a trailer, and also allows smoother articulation between the tractor and trailer when turning.
