Question 3053 · Motorcycle theory test
What should a motorcyclist do to avoid skidding?
Pick an answer to test yourself.
Correct answer
Avoid using the front brake when the motorcycle is banked over.
Official explanation
As motorcycles have less tyre contact on the road than other vehicles, motorcyclists should always brake in a controlled manner. Avoid using the front brake when the machine is banked over in order to reduce the risk of skidding. It is always safer to brake when travelling upright in a straight line. Motorcyclists should avoid braking on bends, and always adjust their braking to suit the road conditions. On approach to bends, brake early and complete braking before the bend. Braking in a bend can cause the bike to straighten up and possible loss of control.
