Question 3045 · Motorcycle theory test
When riding in normal conditions, how should a motorcyclist apply both brakes to come to a complete stop?
Pick an answer to test yourself.
Correct answer
Apply the front brake followed by the rear.
Official explanation
To stop safely in good weather and road conditions, motorcyclists should in general apply the front brake followed by the rear. More pressure should be applied to the front, as this gives the best stopping power. Many modern motorcycles have linked braking systems which can mean that when one lever is pressed it operates both brakes. Motorcyclists should use the vehicle’s handbook to familiarise themselves with the safe operation of the vehicle controls. In wet conditions, equal pressure should be applied to both brakes.
