Question 3050 · Motorcycle theory test
What typically happens when a rider applies both brakes at the same time but with the greatest pressure on the rear?
Pick an answer to test yourself.
Correct answer
The rear wheel may lock.
Official explanation
When a motorcyclist applies the brakes on their motorcycle, their weight and that of the motorcycle shift forward onto the front wheel, and the weight on the rear wheel is reduced. If too much braking force is applied to the rear wheel at this stage, it may lock up, causing a skid and/or serious lack of control. Under normal conditions, the front brake should be applied first, followed by the rear, with the greater pressure on the front.
