Question 3100 · Motorcycle theory test
What should a motorcyclist do if they are following a heavy goods vehicle and an overtaking car pulls into the gap between them and the heavy goods vehicle?
Pick an answer to test yourself.
Correct answer
Ease back to regain a safe distance.
Official explanation
Motorcyclists should always maintain a safe distance between themselves and any vehicles ahead. If another vehicle overtakes you and pulls into this gap, you should slow down and restore the safer gap to the vehicle in front. In normal conditions this should be a two second gap, in wet or adverse conditions motorcyclists need to allow at least a four-second gap to the vehicle in front. In snow or icy conditions this should increase to ten times the normal distance.
