Question 1857 · Truck theory test
What effect will cornering force have on a heavy load when a vehicle goes around a bend?
Pick an answer to test yourself.
Correct answer
It will cause the vehicle’s load to be thrown towards the outside of the bend.
Official explanation
On the approach to bends, drivers must safely adjust the vehicle’s speed to suit road and traffic conditions. If a goods vehicle takes a bend too fast, the cornering force will cause the load to be thrown towards the outside of the bend. If the load is not properly secured, it may move and can even fall from the vehicle. If the road is slippery this may even cause the vehicle to skid.
