Question 1390 · Truck theory test
Can a driver of a manual vehicle ever skip gears?
Pick an answer to test yourself.
Correct answer
Yes, as it helps reduce fuel consumption.
Official explanation
It is not always necessary to change up or down through each gear. It is possible from time to time to skip gears. If done correctly this helps to reduce the amount of time you spend accelerating, as this is when fuel consumption is at its highest. This practice can also be known as “block changing”.
